GCSE and IGCSE English Language

Edexcel, AQA, OCR, CIE, WJEC

This intensive course addresses both the textual skills needed to target assessment objectives and the challenges of producing well-structured, fluent and accurate writing.

In addition to working on key skills, students will be given the opportunity to receive detailed feedback on their own work as well as examining and responding to exemplar responses.

We clarify which aspects are of most concern to individual students based on a detailed analysis of their requirements before the course. This will ensure that our tutors design a bespoke programme and cover relevant examination questions and techniques during the course.

Example one day course:

Responding to Texts:

  • Answering questions on unseen literary prose and non-fiction

  • Evidence-based comprehension skills

  • Analysis of linguistic and structural effects within writing

  • Comparing texts

  • Summarising material

  • Articulating a viewpoint.

Original Writing:

  • Using information from a stimulus text to produce well-structured writing that responds to the requirements of the task

  • Writing that observes relevant formats (e.g. speech, article, guidebook, letter)

  • Creative writing that imagines, describes and narrates

  • Non-fictional writing that informs, explains and describes

  • Discursive writing that explains, argues and persuades.
